چکیده

Previous work investigating temporal integration in the formation of the auditory evoked ®eld component, M100, indicates an accumulation of stimulus attribute information in the processes underlying the M100 response with a temporal window for this integration of 25±32 ms. We investigate the in ̄uence of stimulus duration on M100 amplitude using sinusoidal tone stimuli of increasing duration under two experimental conditions: constant intensity, and constant energy (with stimulus intensity decreasing as duration increased). We report that M100 amplitude increases with stimulus duration up to a point of saturation at 40 ms; importantly, this dependence holds in both experimental conditions, despite differing stimulus intensities. Thus we conclude that (within this 40 ms temporal window) stimulus duration itself, and not integrated energy, determines M100 amplitude. Cortical auditory system maturational abnormalities in children with autism disorder: an MEG investigation.

UNLABELLED Latency of electric (e.g., P1 and N1) and magnetic (e.g., M100) auditory evoked components depends on age in typically developing children, with longer latencies for younger (4-6 years) and shorter, adult-like latencies for older (14-16 years) children. Age-related changes in evoked components provide indirect measures of auditory system maturation and reflect changes that occur duri...

Temporal resolution properties of human auditory cortex: reflections in the neuromagnetic auditory evoked M100 component.

UNLABELLED Previous work has provided evidence for a brief, finite ( approximately 35 ms) temporal window of integration (TWI) in M100 formation, during which stimulus attributes are accumulated in processes leading to the M100 peak. Here, we investigate resolution within the TWI by recording responses to tones containing silent gaps (0-20 ms). Gaps were inserted in 1 kHz tones in 2 conditions:...

Multivariate Matching Pursuit in the Analysis of Single-trial Latency of the Auditory M100 Acquired with MEG

Abstract. A multivariate version of the matching pursuit algorithm (MP) was used in the analysis of auditory evoked fields (AEFs) acquired by means of magnetoencephalography (MEG). Single-trial evoked brain responses were modelled with Gabor functions of certain time of occurrence, temporal width, frequency, and either fixed or varying phase. In particular, trial-to-trial variation of the audit...

Processing of vowels in supratemporal auditory cortex.

The auditory evoked neuromagnetic fields elicited by synthesized vowels of two different fundamental frequencies F0 were recorded in six subjects over the left and right temporal cortices using a 37-channel biomagnetometer. Single equivalent current dipole modeling of the fields elicited by all vowel types localized activity to a well-circumscribed area in supratemporal auditory cortex in both ...

Absence of Auditory M100 Source Asymmetry in Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder: A MEG Study

BACKGROUND Whether schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are the clinical outcomes of discrete or shared causative processes is much debated in psychiatry. Several studies have demonstrated anomalous structural and functional superior temporal gyrus (STG) symmetries in schizophrenia. We examined bipolar patients to determine if they also have altered STG asymmetry. METHODS Whole-head magnetoence...
